BORN: Sarah/ Sallie was born about January 16, 1800 in North Carolina (or in Grayson County, Va. which is just across the line from western North Carolina). to William "Billy" Mayse (or Mays) and Obedience Terrell who were married in 1785. Billy and Obedience were from Wake County, North Carolina. But they lived for a time in Grayson County, Va. He was born in 1760 and she was born about 1761. The 1860 Census of Daviess County, Missouri shows Sallie's age at 63 so her birth date may have been a bit earlier than 1800.

MARRIED: Sallie married Henry Howell Tye in about 1817-1819. Henry was possibly, but not certainly, the son of Elizabeth "Betsy"Tye but his father is unknown. Elizabeth "Betsy" was born March 19, 1774 probably in Virginia. She was the daughter of John Granger Tye born about 1737, reportedly in Baltimore, Maryland and it is not certain which of John's wives was her mother.

CHILDREN: Sallie and Henry Howell Tye had the following children:

Obedience was born about 1819 if the 1860 Census of Daviess County, Missouri is correct. She married William Isbell and had at least the following children:Mary Ann Isbell and Susan Isbell. She later was divorced from Isbell and had returned with her two daughters to live with her mother at the time of the 1860 Census of Daviess County, Missouri.

Elizabeth Tye was born September 4, 1823-1826 and married Christopher Haun. She spent her life in Kentucky. She died August 8, 1892.

Susan Ann Tye was born October 7 or 12, 1824 or 1827 near Williamsburg, Kentucky. Susan married Henry Harrison Tye March 10, 1841 in Kentucky. She and Henry had the following children: Sarah Catherine, William Brown, Henry Purl, Lucy Jane, Palace Napoleon, Franklin Jefferson and Mary. She was divorced from Henry and married, later in life to John Rutledge. She died June 3, 1908 and is buried in the Capp's Cemetery in Harrison, Arkansas.

Mary Ann "Polly" Tye was born about 1828. She married John R. Evans on August 6, 1845 in Whitley County, Ky. Their children were Harriet Ann, Sarah A.,William Sims, Judah A.(Died as infant), Mary Ann, Lucretta A., Henry C, (Died as child) and Josephine F.

Pallas Napoleon Tye was born in about 1833-34 in Whitley County, Kentucky. This is the time he would have been born according to the 1850 Census of Whitley County, Ky. He spent some time in Daviess County, Missouri when a young man after his mother had moved there from Kentucky. But he returned to Kentucky to spend most of his life there. He married Susan Frances Duncan in Kentucky on February 15, 1860. He and Frances had the following children: Sally, Talilhia, Ludlow, Mollie, Mathew A., Lucy, Katie, Robert, and Hattie. He died November 11, 1896.

Henry C. Tye was born December 18, about 1838 in Whitley County, Kentucky. He was possibly married to Mary Ann Lee on December 11, 1859. No record has yet been discovered of Henry C. Tye after the 1860 Census of Daviess County, Mo.where he was listed as living with his mother when about 23 years of age. If he had married Mary Ann Lee in 1859 it is not know the reason she was not listed with him on that census.

Ludlow Edison or Edison Ludlow or Edward L. was born about 1840 in Kentucky, according to the 1850 Census of Whitley County, Ky. and the 1860 Census of Daviess County, Mo. However, there is a son listed as Edward L. Tye, in the 1850 Census and presumably this is the same son as there are no other's listed that would seem to fit. After the 1860 Census he seems to have disappeared.

LOCATIONS: Sally may have been born in North Carolina but evidently was living in Kentucky by the time or shortly after she married as her daughter, Obedience was born in Kentucky by about 1819. In the mid to late 1850's, Sallie moved to Daviess County, Missouri where her daughter and son in law, Susan and Henry Harrison Tye and other Tyes had settled. She was there as the head of her household for the 1860 Census with her younger children and her divorced daughter, Obedience Tye Isbel and her two grandaughters. However she seems to have returned to live her later years in Kentucky.

DEATH: Sallie's death is listed as November 1, 1880 and she was buried in Whitley County, Kentucky.

NOTES: There is a story that Sallie's husband, Henry Howell Tye, went on a drive to take his hogs to market at Atlanta, Georgia in 1846. The family notes say he left and never returned. But there is a more complete story that may be partly true, or not true at all, telling that Henry was murdered on this trip. He was said to have had a partner, Sam Beams, who went with Henry on this trip but returned alone, with a signed deed showing that he now owned Henry's property. Sam Beams was the husband of Joshua Tye's daughter, Rebecca (Betsy) Tye b. 1821. Henry is said to have died November 1, 1846 probably in Georgia. All that is known for sure is that Henry went off supposedly for Georgia and never returned. Sallie lost her husband at this time but she may or may not have lost her property to this alleged treachery.
